RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed three terrorists linked to the Indian-backed group Fitna al Hindustan during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Pangjur district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.

The military’s media wing said the operation, carried out on January 25 following intelligence reports, targeted the terrorists’ location. After an intense exchange of fire, three India-sponsored militants were eliminated, including local commander Farooq, also known as Soro, and operatives Adeel and Waseem. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.

The ISPR said the slain terrorists had been actively involved in numerous violent activities in the area. Sanitization operations are ongoing to neutralize any remaining India-sponsored militants in Pangjur. The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its counter-terrorism campaign under the vision “Azm-e-Istehkam,” pledging to continue operations against foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism at full pace.

Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, cross-border attacks have increased, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, which share a border with Afghanistan.

ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in a press briefing on January 6 that 75,175 intelligence-based operations were conducted across the country in 2025. Of these, 14,658 took place in KP, 58,778 in Balochistan, and 1,739 in other regions.

He added that 5,397 terrorism incidents were reported nationwide last year, including 3,811 in KP and 1,557 in Balochistan, with the remainder occurring elsewhere. Counterterror operations killed 2,597 terrorists during the year. Lt Gen Chaudhry said civilians and soft targets were deliberately targeted in 10 major terror attacks, all of which involved Afghan militants.
