SUKKUR: The Sukkur Union of Journalists has announced that it will hold a journalists’ martyrs’ conference on 29 March, bringing together media professionals from across Pakistan. The decision was made during a key meeting chaired by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) central leader Imdad Phulpoto.
Attendees included Sukkur Union of Journalists President Parvez Khan, General Secretary Din Muhammad Samijo, Senior Vice President Syed Kamran Ali, Ahmad Qureshi, Treasurer Nisar Chanjan, Office Secretary Raja Rustam Andhar, Abdul Majeed Mehr, Altaf Kilor, Nadeem Bozdar, Azad Ajeeb Mangi, Ali Gohar Shanbani, and other members.
Representatives from Sukkur National Press Club, including President Abdul Rauf Abbasi, General Secretary Rasheed Raza, Raheb Mangrio, Ashiq Haideri, Sachal Solangi, Muzaffar Mangi, Malook Baloch, Faqir Adil Abro, Sarfaraz Chana, Syed Noman Ali, Shabbir Memon, Yasir Ansari, Zahid Chauhan, Mukhtiar Samo, Muneeb Andhar, Rizwan Ahmed, Abdul Sattar Shanbani, Ali Gohar Mehr, and Alhadno Mehr were also present.
The meeting resolved to hold the conference in memory of journalist Ajay Lalwani on his fifth death anniversary. The event will take place at the Sukkur National Press Club, Globe Chowk, on Sunday, 29 March, with journalists attending from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Larkana, and other cities. On 17 March, flowers will be laid at Saleh Pat to mark the martyrdom of Ajay Lalwani.
During the meeting, PFUJ central leader Imdad Phulpoto expressed concern over the killings of multiple journalists in the Sukkur region, noting that police and law enforcement agencies had failed to take adequate action against the perpetrators. He emphasised the need for unity within the journalist community. He also paid tribute to slain journalists including Ajay Lalwani, Jan Muhammad, AD Sher, Nasrullah Gudani, Tufail Rand, Asghar Khand, and others.
Sukkur Union of Journalists President Parvez Khan said invitations would be sent to all working journalists for the martyrs’ convention. PFUJ central leaders, including President Rana Azim, General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, Samit Hasan Abbas, GM Jamali, Akbar Jafri, Syed Ashraf Shah, and others, will also attend. A committee comprising General Secretary Din Muhammad Samijo, Sukkur National Press Club President Abdul Rauf Abbasi, and General Secretary Rasheed Raza will ensure invitations are sent to all unions and members under PFUJ leadership.
