ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Ghana took a significant step to deepen their long-standing bilateral relationship during the first-ever Bilateral Political Consultations held in Accra, Ghana.

The meetings, which brought together senior officials from both countries, underscored a shared commitment to expanding cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors. The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Foreign Secretary Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, while the Ghanaian team was headed by Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu.

Both sides engaged in extensive discussions on enhancing political, economic, defence, and cultural ties, reflecting decades of friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations. A highlight of the consultations was the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

The first formalized the framework for future Bilateral Political Consultations, ensuring that the dialogue between Islamabad and Accra would continue on a regular basis. The second MoU was signed between the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad and the Ghana Foreign Service Institute, opening avenues for professional exchange and capacity building in diplomatic services.

Officials emphasized that the consultations would pave the way for more targeted and project-specific cooperation, with potential collaboration spanning tourism, health, education, information technology, and other mutually beneficial areas. Both sides agreed to hold the next round of consultations in Islamabad the following year, signaling a sustained commitment to institutional dialogue.
