KARACHI: The fashion industry holds significant potential to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and earn substantial foreign exchange, according to Mirza Ishtiaq Baig, Honorary Consul General of Morocco in Pakistan.
Speaking at an event held at Baig House in honor of internationally acclaimed fashion designer Mahmood Bhatti, he emphasized the role of Pakistani fashion in promoting the country globally and creating opportunities for young talent.
The event was attended by Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, film star Javed Sheikh, fashion designers Nadeem Maazji and Mahmood Bhatti, Hameed Aslam, Azhar Zia, Zulfiqar Halipota, Athar Javed Sufi, Chairman of the Pakistan Film and TV Journalists Association, and President Abdul Wasi Qureshi, among others.
Mirza Ikhtiar Baig highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s fashion industry as a source of economic growth and foreign exchange earnings. Javed Sheikh praised Mahmood Bhatti as a self-made individual who has established a distinct identity in both the fashion and film industries, noting that the support he receives in Karachi motivates him to continue his work passionately.
Fashion designer Mahmood Bhatti was lauded for putting Pakistan on the global fashion map. Nadeem Maazji added that Pakistani women’s and men’s fashion are highly popular internationally, and he advocated for organizing fashion shows in Karachi, the UAE, and Europe to expand the country’s fashion market.
The gathering concluded with the serving of traditional Moroccan tea, and a group photo was taken to commemorate the event celebrating Mahmood Bhatti’s contributions to fashion. The event underscored the growing prominence of Pakistan’s fashion industry as both a cultural ambassador and an engine for economic growth.
