SUKKUR: Khairpur police recovered a cache of weapons and arrested suspects during an operation on the Mehran Highway, officials said.
Speaking at a joint press conference, ASP Abdullah Faisal and SHO Kumb Yasir Khoso said police stopped a suspicious car during routine checking on the highway. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two Kalashnikov rifles and around 800 rounds of ammunition.
The ASP said the suspects were transporting weapons in the car and a case had been registered against them at Kumb police station. He said investigations were under way with the arrested suspect, identified as Muharram Maitlo, while other suspects had managed to flee. He added that criminals and facilitators of robbers would not be spared.
In a related development, police also arrested another suspect, Muhammad Abid, son of Murad Ali Solangi. Police said he had been supplying weapons to katcha dacoits and was also involved in helping them collect extortion money.
