SUKKUR: Khairpur police shot dead a suspect involved in the rape and murder of a boy during an encounter on Tuesday, officials said. SHO Tando Masti, Yasir Ali Khoso, said that while patrolling on Larkana Road near Jam Bridge, police signaled a motorcyclist to stop.
The suspects, however, opened fire on the police, prompting an exchange of gunfire. One of the suspects was injured and later died on the way to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Imdad Ali, son of Ramzan Ahmed Chohan, from Mehrabpur city in Naushahro Feroze district.
Authorities said the suspect had allegedly drugged and raped a boy, Noman Ali Arain, three days earlier within the limits of Tando Masti police station. The victim later died, and his body was recovered from a truck. The boy’s father had filed a murder case against the suspect at Tando Masti police station under FIR No. 18/2026, sections 302, 337, 502, 34.
Police said the criminal record of the slain suspect was being verified from other districts, including Khairpur. SSP Khairpur, Dr Samiullah Soomro, announced that the police team involved in the operation would be awarded appreciation certificates and cash rewards for their action.
