SUKKUR: The polio eradication campaign in Sukkur district officially began on Thursday, with Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shehzad Khan administering the first dose to a child, marking the launch of the four-day drive.
In a high-level meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Nadir Shehzad Khan instructed officials to strictly implement the updated micro-plan for the campaign, starting from 2 February to 5 February 2026. He emphasised that any negligence or lapses would not be tolerated, and defaulters from previous campaigns should be excluded from the teams. Adequate training for all vaccination teams was also ordered, along with a Plan B to ensure alternate teams cover any missed areas.
The Deputy Commissioner directed Assistant Commissioners to assign one team monitor for every four union councils, utilising the district’s 36 team monitors for effective supervision.
Dr. Waqar from the Health Department briefed the meeting, stating that during this campaign, 3,25,686 children under the age of five in Sukkur district are scheduled to receive polio drops.
The meeting was attended by ADC-II Bushra Mansoor, all Assistant Commissioners, DHOs, CMOs, representatives from PHI, WHO, police, education authorities, and other relevant departments. Following the briefing, the Deputy Commissioner administered polio drops to a child, officially marking the start of the vaccination drive.
