SUKKUR: The commissioner of Sukkur division, Abid Saleem Qureshi, chaired a review meeting to assess progress on ongoing development projects across the division, officials said.
The meeting, held at the commissioner’s office, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Nadir Shehzad Khan, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pir Wahid Bux, regional director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Abdul Qudoos Memon, and senior officers from education works, buildings, highways and planning departments.

Officials briefed the commissioner on a range of projects, including two ongoing schemes at Lansdowne Bridge, the Gudani Phatak overhead bridge, 10 schemes being implemented by the disabilities empowerment department in the Sukkur region, four repair and maintenance schemes of district highways, and 78 small and large projects related to roads and paving blocks. Updates were also shared on the Safe City project based on CCTV cameras, the Public School Sukkur scheme and other development initiatives.
Addressing the meeting, Qureshi said he and the deputy commissioners of the concerned districts would carry out field visits on a rotational basis to monitor the works. He directed officers not to compromise on quality and said that assistant commissioners must be informed at the start of any new project so that monitoring could begin from the outset.

He stressed the need for better coordination among departments and called for historical sites to be kept clean, noting that foreign tourists also visited these places and poor conditions could create a negative image of the country. He said that if any project faced encroachment or other issues, the administration should be informed in time to ensure swift resolution and prevent delays.
