PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance, Muzammil Aslam, said the friendship between Pakistan and China is a rare global example that has grown stronger over time, through changing circumstances and global transformations. He described the relationship as more than diplomatic or economic—a bond rooted in trust, respect, brotherhood and mutual cooperation.
He spoke at a grand ceremony organised by China Window to mark the 75th anniversary of Pakistan–China friendship and the Spring Festival. The event was attended by former governors Haji Ghulam Ali and Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Dawood Khan, Vice Chancellor of UET Professor Dr Sadiq Khattak, Bishop Ernest Jacob, members of the business community, journalists, students and others.
Muzammil Aslam said Pakistan’s recognition of the People’s Republic of China in 1951 reflected foresight and principled policy, which today is evident in a strong, sustainable partnership. He highlighted the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a flagship project, noting its role in resolving energy shortages, improving connectivity through highways and motorways, and enhancing Pakistan’s position in regional and global trade through Gwadar Port. He also praised the development of Special Economic Zones for creating investment, industrial growth and employment opportunities.
Former Governor Haji Ghulam Ali said China has supported Pakistan through wars, natural disasters and international pressures, calling bilateral relations “a strong fortress.” Former Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra described the relationship as built on trust rather than “give and take,” noting CPEC’s transformative impact on Pakistan’s energy, infrastructure and industrial development.
Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Dawood Khan stressed the importance of passing the friendship to new generations through education, culture and media, and commended institutions like China Window for promoting people-to-people ties.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting to mark the 75th anniversary and the distribution of shields to participants, while China Window Administrator Amjad Aziz Malik welcomed guests and reiterated the event’s message of peace, love and friendship between the two nations.
