SUKKUR: The Pioneers Panel secured a decisive victory in the Sukkur Arts Council elections for the year 2026–27, winning five key positions and six seats on the governing body. Of the 77 members eligible to vote, 72 cast their ballots.
In the election, Mumtaz Bukhari of the Pioneers Panel won the post of president with 45 votes, while Rahim Bakhsh, also known as Mehr Khadim, was elected vice president with 43 votes. Akhtar Dargahi secured the position of general secretary with 45 votes, Shaukat Ali Rahi was elected joint secretary with 42 votes, and Arshad Shah won the treasurer seat with 40 votes.
The six successful candidates for the governing body were Adil Soomro, Syed Noor, Badr Ajan, Ayaz Gul, Tariq Kolachi, and Abdul Qadeer Ansari. The Shah Latif Panel candidate Abdul Hakeem Zangio received 22 votes, while other panel members included Mola Dad Jatoi, Khadim Mangi, Jalaluddin Jogi, Hasan Abbas, among others.
Prior to the election, a general body meeting was held at the Sangar Ali Saleem Auditorium of Sukkur Arts Council, where a two-year performance report of the council was presented.
To oversee the election arrangements, Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi attended the event. In his address at the conclusion of the general body meeting, he pledged support for promoting arts in collaboration with the Sukkur Arts Council. He highlighted Sukkur’s historical significance as a city of renowned Sindhi writers, poets, artists, and performers. Emphasizing the democratic nature of the voting process, he urged all elected members to work together and strengthen the council’s mission.
