ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of interfaith harmony in a world increasingly defined by conflict, division, and rising intolerance.

In a message issued to mark the start of World Interfaith Harmony Week, observed from Monday until the seventh of this month, he highlighted the enduring relevance of shared values such as peace, compassion, mutual respect, and coexistence.

President Zardari noted that the observance serves as a reminder of the principles that bind humanity across faiths, stressing that fostering understanding and dialogue among different religious communities is essential for social cohesion. He underlined that promoting tolerance and mutual respect is not only a moral responsibility but also a foundation for stable and inclusive societies.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to advancing interfaith harmony, the President said the country would continue efforts to encourage dialogue and cooperation both nationally and internationally. He called on citizens to reflect on the lessons of the week and to actively contribute to building communities grounded in empathy, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

Observers noted that the message comes at a time when global and regional tensions have made initiatives promoting interfaith understanding increasingly significant. By linking the week to universal values, President Zardari’s statement reinforced the idea that shared human principles can serve as a bridge across divides, fostering dialogue and solidarity in times of social and political challenges.
