TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned that any US attack on Iran would trigger a war across the wider Middle East.
His remarks come amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with US president Donald Trump issuing repeated threats against Iran. Speaking through state media, Khamenei said references by Trump to the movement of warplanes were intended to intimidate but would not frighten the Iranian people.
“Trump keeps saying he has brought aircraft,” Khamenei said. “The Iranian nation will not be scared by such statements, nor will it be intimidated by these threats.”
He added that Iran does not seek to initiate conflict. “We do not start wars and we do not want them,” he said. “But if anyone attacks or harasses the Iranian nation, they will receive a firm response.”
