DERA ISMAIL KHAN: After a long hiatus, an open court (Khuli Kachehri) was held at the Police Lines, allowing citizens to directly present grievances and concerns to District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada.

The session was attended by city elders, civil society members, social activists, and representatives of trader organisations. Participants praised the police for their sacrifices in combating terrorism and maintaining law and order, while also raising concerns about rising social crimes, including theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and illegal money lending.

DPO Sahibzada listened to the complaints and issued immediate directives to address several issues. He welcomed constructive criticism aimed at improving policing and assured attendees that their concerns would be addressed sincerely.

Speaking at the event, the DPO emphasized that policing is a community effort and requires public cooperation to be effective. He urged civil society, traders, journalists, social leaders, and religious scholars to promote awareness of civic responsibilities and social norms. He also called for the social boycott of individuals engaged in immoral or criminal activities to restore a healthy community environment.

“The law alone cannot change mindsets; family values and traditions play a critical role in reforming society,” he said. He added that while police officers remain committed to their duties, extraordinary circumstances in the region make public support more crucial than ever.

DPO Sahibzada concluded that collaboration between the police and citizens is essential for peace, stability, and development, and announced that such open court sessions will continue to strengthen coordination and trust between law enforcement and the community.
