KHAIRPUR: The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan constituted a national strategic task force to review and reform doctoral education, with Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk, vice-chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, nominated as a member.
According to an HEC notification issued on 26 January 2026, the task force was formed under the convenership of the academician Dr Sohail H Naqvi, a member of the commission. It also includes senior higher education leaders such as Dr S M Tariq Rafi, chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, and Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan, chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission.
The forum brings together vice-chancellors, academicians and subject experts to examine doctoral education in Pakistan, including research quality, supervision standards, funding mechanisms and alignment with international practices. The task force is expected to propose reforms aimed at improving the quality, relevance and global credibility of doctoral programmes.
Dr Khushk’s nomination was described by officials as recognition of his role in higher education leadership and academic governance at the national level.
