ISLAMABAD: Condemnations poured in after a suicide bomber targeted Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra in Islamabad’s Tarlai area, killing at least 31 worshippers and injuring dozens during Friday prayers.
The United States strongly condemned the attack, calling all acts of terror and violence unacceptable, the US Embassy in Islamabad said. Charge d’Affaires Natalie A Baker offered condolences to the wounded and the families of the dead. The embassy added that violence against civilians and places of worship could never be justified. It reiterated Washington’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to maintain peace and security and pledged continued commitment to the bilateral partnership.
UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott described herself as “outraged and heartbroken” over the attack. She extended thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families, calling such violence abhorrent. The envoy expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan in the wake of the tragedy.
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries. It extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The embassy emphasized China’s unwavering solidarity, saying it stands firmly with Pakistan during this difficult time.
Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam condemned the attack as a hideous act that led to the martyrdom and injury of innocent civilians. He spoke on behalf of the Iranian government and people.
Turkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a strong condemnation of the attack, extending condolences to the families of the dead and solidarity with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.
