KARACHI: Karachi hosted the awards ceremony for a logo design competition marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, celebrating the enduring partnership between the two nations.
The event, organized by Irfan Soomro, DG of the MOFA Liaison Office Karachi, highlighted creative contributions from participants, including third-prize winner Nayab Zahra, whose design reflected the depth of China-Pakistan friendship. The ceremony was attended by Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong, who distributed gifts and prizes, as well as diplomats from Malaysia and Indonesia, Deputy DG Sadia Gohar Khanum, and assistant Maryum.
Yang Yundong highlighted the historic ties, noting that 75 years ago both nations made a strategic choice to join hands, creating an “unbreakable all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.” He paid tribute to leaders including the late Pakistani Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai, as well as later leaders Benazir Bhutto and President Zardari, for solidifying the bilateral relationship.
He emphasized that the partnership is “higher than mountains, deeper than the sea, and sweeter than honey” in Pakistan, while in China, Pakistanis are affectionately called “BATIE.” Practical cooperation through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has advanced from its foundation phase to a “2.0 upgraded version,” with future focus on industry, agriculture, and mining to ensure local benefits.
Yang stressed the importance of people-to-people exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding. Celebrations of the 75th anniversary follow the visit of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar to China for the seventh China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Consultation.
