KARACHI: Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development (BBS-UTECH), Khairpur, attended a Chinese New Year ceremony hosted by Yang Yundong, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi, in a gathering that underscored the depth of educational and cultural ties between the two countries.

The event brought together select vice chancellors from universities across Sindh as well as distinguished alumni of Chinese institutions, reflecting the growing academic exchanges between Pakistan and China. In his address, the Consul General highlighted the strength of bilateral relations, describing them as rooted not only in contemporary strategic and economic cooperation but also in centuries-old civilizational connections.
Senior academics present at the ceremony echoed these sentiments, pointing to the expanding scope of collaboration in higher education, research and technology. Speakers also invoked the shared heritage of the Indus Valley Civilization and the Chinese civilization, emphasizing that cultural exchanges between the two regions dated back thousands of years. The remarks framed the modern partnership as an extension of historic links, now strengthened through joint projects, student scholarships and institutional cooperation.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar presented a Shield of Honor to Yang Yundong on behalf of BBS-UTECH, acknowledging what he described as an enduring partnership and sustained cultural exchange between Pakistan and China. The gesture symbolized not only diplomatic goodwill but also the university’s commitment to deepening academic engagement with Chinese institutions.
