NAWABSHAH: Authorities have ordered the immediate evacuation of two commercial and residential buildings declared structurally unsafe, following a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani at the DC office.
Officials said a joint inspection report by a technical committee found the municipally owned Taiba Center and the district council’s Shan Plaza to be in an advanced state of deterioration, posing a serious threat to life and property.
The committee recommended urgent evacuation of the buildings. It said that if rehabilitation was considered, a detailed structural investigation would be required, but given the extent of damage, demolition and reconstruction appeared to be the safest option.
Mayor Qazi Muhammad Rashid Bhatti told the meeting that notices had already been issued to tenants of Taiba Center to vacate shops and flats and that a resolution for demolition and rebuilding had been approved. Final notices were to be served the same day.
The district council’s executive engineer said Shan Plaza comprised 52 shops and 12 flats and that evacuation would begin after tenants were taken into confidence.
Participants unanimously endorsed the committee’s recommendations and decided that final notices would be issued for immediate evacuation. Utility connections, including gas and electricity, would be disconnected if necessary.
The deputy commissioner directed all departments to implement the decision without delay, warning that negligence would not be tolerated. MPA Chaudhry Javed Iqbal Arian and PPP district president Muhammad Salim Zardari also called for urgent action to protect human lives. Senior administrative officers and representatives of relevant departments attended the meeting.
