KARAK: A brazen terrorist attack in Karak on Sunday left three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel dead and five others injured after militants carried out a suspected drone strike on an FC fort near Dargah Shaheedan in the Bahadar Khel area, followed by an ambush on rescue ambulances.
Police sources said the initial attack, in the jurisdiction of Khurram Muhammad Zai Police Station, targeted the FC fort using a quadcopter drone. Five personnel were injured in the blast, prompting an immediate response from Rescue 1122 to transport the wounded to the hospital.
As the ambulances moved from Bahadar Khel, militants opened heavy fire on the vehicles. Three FC personnel inside the ambulance were martyred, while two Rescue 1122 officials were injured. The attackers reportedly set the ambulance on fire.
Security forces engaged in a prolonged exchange of fire with the militants, while the area was cordoned off and checkpoints established on all routes. Four injured FC personnel are receiving treatment at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital.
Authorities condemned the attacks as cowardly acts of terrorism and pledged to apprehend the perpetrators. The district administration urged residents to avoid unnecessary movement and report any suspicious activity. Additional security reinforcements have been deployed to prevent further incidents.
