Karachi, February 25: Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi conducted a detailed inspection of Shahrah-e-Faisal on Wednesday, assessing ongoing cleanliness, beautification, and urban management efforts. Calling Shahrah-e-Faisal “the face of the city,” he instructed Deputy Commissioners and municipal authorities to take proactive measures to enhance its appearance, including planting environmentally friendly trees, maintaining grass and greenery, and ensuring proper waste management on both sides of the road.
Naqvi specifically took notice of Conocarpus trees, highlighting their negative impact on human health and the environment. He directed the Director of Parks to remove the existing trees and immediately replace them with environment-friendly alternatives. He emphasized that all Deputy Commissioners must ensure the replacement of Conocarpus trees within their jurisdictions and actively contribute to improving urban aesthetics and environmental conditions across the city.
The Commissioner also inspected service roads and footpaths, noting construction debris obstructing pedestrian and vehicular traffic. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners to coordinate with relevant departments to remove obstacles and clear the pathways, ensuring smooth traffic flow and safety for commuters.
Additionally, Naqvi expressed concern over illegal parking of commercial vehicles and rickshaws on key stretches of the road, urging authorities to strictly enforce regulations to prevent disruption and maintain the road’s appearance.
Officials accompanying him included Deputy Commissioners Nasrullah Abbasi (East), Samiullah Shaikh (Malir), Assistant Commissioners Rabia Syed (HQs) and Waqas Abbasi (General), Director Planning Naseem Bhutto, among others, who were briefed on required corrective measures.
