SUKKUR: Sukkur IBA University hosted a prestigious Laptop Distribution Ceremony under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme alongside the inauguration of advanced Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Labs at its Main Campus. The event was attended by Chief Guest Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, Chairman District Council Sukkur, university officials, faculty, and students.
The ceremony began with the formal inauguration of the AI and Data Science Labs in Academic Block-V, followed by the laptop distribution in the Auditorium Hall. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asif Ahmed Shaikh announced that 261 laptops were allocated in the current phase, including 212 for the Main Campus and the rest for Dadu (13), Mirpurkhas (10), Khairpur (14), and Kandhkot (12) campuses. Since 2014, Sukkur IBA has received a total of 2,506 laptops, with all selections conducted transparently online through the Higher Education Commission.

Prof. Shaikh highlighted the significance of laptops in enhancing learning for students of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and allied fields. He appreciated the support of the Federal Government and HEC and requested increased allocations to match the University’s growing enrollment. He also praised the Peoples Information Technology Program (PITP) launched in 2023, which has trained thousands of students, enabling many to earn through digital skills.
Muhammad Ali Sheikh, Deputy Registrar Admissions and focal person for the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme at Sukkur IBA, confirmed that over 2,000 students applied this year, and 261 were selected purely on merit. He encouraged students to use the laptops effectively for research, assignments, presentations, and academic projects.

Chief Guest Syed Kumail Hyder Shah lauded Sukkur IBA University’s achievements in academics, IT, and innovation. He called the Youth Laptop Scheme and Peoples IT initiatives transformative programs that provide youth with global learning platforms.
He also announced the launch of the District Peoples IT Program under District Council Sukkur, initially providing 25 laptops, and promised full support for university-led AI and IT projects in collaboration with the Government of Sindh. The event concluded with souvenir distribution and a group photograph, reaffirming Sukkur IBA University’s commitment to digital empowerment, academic excellence, and youth development across Sindh.
