KHYBER: The EVAWG Alliance Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has strongly condemned the murder of Dr Mahwish Hasnain in Kohat, calling for exemplary punishment for those responsible.
In a statement, Muhammad Arif of the alliance urged the introduction of national-level legislation to protect doctors and medical staff, alongside strict enforcement of existing laws. He demanded that the case be tried in an anti-terrorism court and that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
Arif said the killing underscored the growing insecurity faced by women professionals and highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms. The alliance called on the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and law enforcement agencies to conduct a prompt, transparent and impartial investigation, ensure the immediate arrest of those involved, and make the findings public to restore confidence and prevent similar incidents.
It also demanded the implementation of robust workplace safety protocols, gender-responsive security measures and effective protection mechanisms to guarantee safe working conditions for women across all sectors.
The statement concluded that justice for Dr Mahwish must go beyond punishing those responsible and extend to ensuring lasting protection and security for women nationwide.
