KARACHI: A four-day Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Ramadan Cricket League 2026 was inaugurated on Tuesday at Shah Ahmed Noorani Eidgah Ground in Korangi, organised in collaboration with the Town Municipal Corporation Korangi.
The opening ceremony was attended by Korangi Town chairman Muhammad Naeem Sheikh and Pakistan Peoples Party district president for Korangi Jani Memon, who met players and encouraged them ahead of the matches. Finance secretary Yasar Khan, MPA Asif Musa, Safora Town chairman Rashid Khaskheli, Chanesar Town chairman Farhan Ghani and Korangi Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hussain Khoso were also present, along with a large number of residents and cricket enthusiasts.
Addressing the ceremony, Yasar Khan said sporting activities during Ramadan offered young people positive engagement and healthy recreation. Jani Memon praised efforts to promote sports in Korangi, saying the tournament, named after Benazir Bhutto, would foster unity, discipline and sportsmanship among the youth. Muhammad Naeem Sheikh said creating a healthy environment for young people remained his top priority and announced that prizes and trophies would be awarded to the best-performing teams and players.
On the opening day, District Korangi’s Korangi Eleven faced PS-91 Eleven in the first match. Chairman Eleven played PS-92 Eleven in the second fixture, followed by Youth District Korangi Eleven against PS-93 Eleven. Karachi Eleven took on PS-90 Eleven in the fourth match, while PS-91 Eleven met PPS-94 Eleven in the fifth contest.
The league was played in a competitive and energetic spirit, drawing strong appreciation from spectators. The ground was decorated with lights, and special security and administrative arrangements were put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
