KARACHI: Police in Malir carried out a grand operation against drug addicts in the Shah Latif police station limits, saying the move was aimed at protecting young people from narcotics.
The action was taken on the directives of the Sindh inspector general, Javed Alam Odho, and under the supervision of SSP Malir Dr Abdul Khaliq. A heavy contingent of Shah Latif police took part in the operation in Quaidabad and other areas, taking several drug addicts into custody and shifting them to the police station.
Police officials said awareness was also provided about the harmful effects of drugs in an effort to prevent young people from falling prey to addiction. They described the youth as the country’s future and said strict action against drug dealers was continuing across the district.
During the operation, several addicts were transferred to a rehabilitation centre run by the Edhi Foundation under the supervision of SHO Mumtaz Khan Marwat, so they could begin treatment and return to a healthy life.
Police said drug addiction affected not only individuals but entire families, and urged the public to stand alongside law enforcement in the ongoing campaign against drug dealers and anti-social elements.
