ISLAMABAD: With Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 expected around March 20, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued guidelines to help citizens obtain new currency notes safely and avoid illegal sellers charging premium rates.
The SBP has outlined multiple official channels for obtaining fresh notes:
Step 1: Use the 8877 SMS Service
- Activate the 8877 short code service in the second week of Ramadan.
- Type your CNIC number followed by a space and the code of your preferred bank branch, then send to 8877.
- You will receive a unique transaction code and branch address in reply.
Step 2: Visit the Designated Bank Branch
- Present your CNIC and the transaction code at the branch.
- Bank staff will verify your request and provide packets of Rs10, Rs20, and Rs50 notes.
Step 3: Contact Your Bank Manager
- If the 8877 service is busy, contact your branch directly.
- Existing account holders may receive priority for limited stock.
Step 4: Visit SBP Bank Services Corporation Offices
- Major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad have SBP BSC offices with larger stocks.
- Notes are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Step 5: Check ATMs During Last Ten Days of Ramadan
- Banks often load relatively clean Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes suitable for gifting.
Citizens are strongly advised to obtain fresh notes only from authorized sources and report illegal sellers to authorities to avoid inflated prices and unlawful practices.
