GILGIT: The Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture Gilgit-Baltistan highlighted the region’s tourism potential at the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) Berlin 2026, one of the world’s leading tourism exhibitions held in Berlin, Germany from March 3 to 5. The event brought together thousands of tourism organizations, travel companies, and industry stakeholders from around 180 countries.

The Gilgit-Baltistan delegation showcased the area’s stunning natural landscapes, unique cultural heritage, and adventure tourism opportunities, drawing significant interest and appreciation from international participants. Under the Gilgit-Baltistan Rules of Business 2009, promoting tourist destinations and marketing tourism products globally is a core responsibility of the department.
The delegation was led by Secretary Tourism, Sports and Culture Faisal Ahsan Pirzada, with Director Tourism and Culture Iqbal Hussain also in attendance. Meetings were held with international tour operators, tourism organizations, and potential investors to inform them about development and investment opportunities in the region.
Officials noted that Gilgit-Baltistan’s towering mountain ranges, glaciers, lakes, historical sites, and cultural attractions, along with adventure tourism offerings, were major draws for the global tourism community. Participation in international platforms such as ITB Berlin aims to increase foreign tourist arrivals, attract investment into the tourism sector, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
