WASHINGTON: US authorities have raised concerns that Chinese hackers may be behind a recent cyberattack on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) network.
According to a US newspaper, investigators believe the hackers could be affiliated with the Chinese government. The attack reportedly targeted the FBI’s internal computer network, though the scale and extent of the damage remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
The Chinese embassy in Washington has not issued any response regarding the allegations.
Reports indicate that the FBI began investigating unusual activity on a specific part of its network on February 17. According to the FBI notification, the hackers targeted a non-classified system containing communication records of individuals under FBI investigation.
The FBI described the hackers’ methods as highly sophisticated and confirmed that efforts to resolve the issue and conduct forensic investigations are ongoing.
