SUKKUR: Train services near Tando Masti Station in Khairpur were temporarily halted after a blast damaged the railway track, but operations have now resumed following repair work.
The explosion occurred as a goods train travelling from Lahore to Karachi crossed the track. Windows on the train were shattered and a crater around four feet deep formed on the down track, causing panic among local residents who rushed from their homes.
Police, Rangers, and the bomb disposal squad cordoned off the area and began an investigation. Senior intelligence officials were also on site. SSP Khairpur Dr. Samiullah Soomro described the blast as a “cracker explosion” near Pir Sher at Tando Masti Khan Railway Crossing, under Kot Diji police station.
He confirmed that around 1.5 feet of track was damaged, but no derailments, injuries, or fatalities occurred. The goods train was safely stopped, and the up track continued operating normally.
Authorities estimated that repairs would take four to five hours. DTO Railway Sukkur Mohsin Sial confirmed that the down line has been repaired, allowing trains to resume safe operations.
The blast has raised concerns among locals. Alerts were issued at all nearby stations as authorities continue investigating the cause and nature of the explosion to prevent similar incidents in the future.
