WANA: Funeral prayers for two South Waziristan Police officers, Constable Mirza Naeem and Head Constable Gul Shah, who were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Wana Bazaar, were offered at the Wana Police Lines on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Lower South Waziristan Musarat Zaman, Colonel Commandant Tahir, ADC Khalid Burki, and Assistant Commissioner Rizwan, along with senior officials from the police, security forces, and district administration. Participants paid tribute to the martyrs for their sacrifice and praised their dedicated service for the peace and stability of the region.
Following the prayers, the bodies of the martyrs were sent to their ancestral hometowns for burial with full state honors. A police contingent presented a guard of honor to the fallen officers.
Authorities also arranged immediate medical assistance for the injured. Due to the timely efforts of District Police Officer Lower South Waziristan Mohammad Tahir Shah Wazir, an air ambulance provided by IGFC South transported critically injured victims to Peshawar for advanced medical treatment. The DPO personally supervised the rescue operation at Peshawar airport and ensured the wounded were transferred to hospitals for further care.
The Lower South Waziristan Police expressed gratitude to IGFC South, Major General Umar Ahmed Khan Niazi, for his prompt support and for arranging helicopter services during the emergency.
Police officials reiterated that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain and that operations against terrorist elements would continue with full determination to ensure lasting peace in the region. A police spokesperson said the sacrifices of police martyrs would always be remembered with pride by the nation.
The blast occurred in Wana Bazaar about half an hour before Iftar when an explosive device planted earlier targeted a police party. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of three people, including two police officers, and left 30 others injured, among them five additional police personnel. Critically injured victims were later airlifted to Peshawar on the directives of IGFC South for immediate treatment.
