WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would respond with force “20 times more severe” if Iran attempts to block the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said any move by Iran to obstruct the key maritime route would trigger a decisive response that could leave the country unable to recover. “There would be death, fire and wrath across Iran,” he said, adding that he hoped the situation would not escalate to that point.
The US president described the strait as a lifeline for countries including China and other global economies, stressing that uninterrupted access to the shipping corridor is crucial for international trade and energy supplies.
Taking a hardline stance, Trump also claimed that any emerging leadership in Iran had been neutralised and warned that future leaders would face serious consequences if they pursued similar policies.
He added that the United States, in coordination with Israel, had already inflicted significant damage on Iran’s military capabilities.
