WASHINGTON: Analysts have outlined five possible scenarios for how the ongoing conflict involving Iran could end, according to a report by a US news website.
One scenario suggests that United States and Iran could return to negotiations and reach a new agreement to limit Tehran’s nuclear programme. Another possibility is that Washington could attempt to replace the Iranian leadership through pressure or covert operations.
The report also suggested that the US might choose to work with a new leadership emerging from within Iran’s existing political system.
Another scenario points to the possibility of widespread protests in Iran triggered by war, economic crisis and political pressure, potentially leading to the collapse of the current system.
The most severe outcome could involve Israel and the United States launching ground operations to destroy or seize Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The report added that US President Donald Trump could alternatively declare victory by claiming that Iran’s missile and drone capabilities had been significantly weakened and then withdraw American forces.
Earlier, during a press conference in Florida, Trump indicated that the military operation could be limited, describing the campaign as short and suggesting that many objectives had already been achieved.
