KABUL: Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), said the Taliban had sacrificed the Afghan people by supporting terrorist organisations, pushing the country into a deep security and geopolitical crisis. He made the remarks during a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the killing of Abdul Ali Mazari, former leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan.
Massoud criticized the Taliban for turning Afghanistan into a battleground for militant groups, including Al-Qaeda, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Jaish al-Adl, and Ansarullah, by providing them safe haven. He highlighted that Pakistani army attacks on Afghan territory were partly a consequence of the Taliban’s reckless conduct and backing of armed groups.
He stressed that the Taliban had been a central factor in both current and past turmoil in Afghanistan, creating a long-standing security crisis. “For years, they have dragged Afghanistan into security problems and geopolitical games,” Massoud said, adding that today’s war is the direct outcome of these unwise actions.
