MIRPURKHAS: A corruption scandal has emerged at the Mirpurkhas Education Board, where thousands of Afghan nationals were allegedly issued fake matriculation certificates. Investigators say the fraudulent documents were later used by Afghan citizens to obtain domicile certificates and national identity cards.
According to ASP Qurat-ul-Ain, the scheme involved issuing bogus academic credentials in exchange for large sums of money. During interrogation, an arrested suspect confessed that payments ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs100,000 were taken to increase exam marks, while Rs50,000 was charged to change a failing result into a pass.
The suspect further revealed that Rs500,000 was charged for issuing a completely fake matric certificate. He claimed that the board’s controller was a central figure in the operation and that two government and two private schools were also involved in the network.
Authorities have launched further investigations into the case, which has raised serious concerns about corruption in the education system and the misuse of academic documents for obtaining official identity papers.
