HAVANA: Cuba has been plunged into darkness after a second major blackout in one week, disrupting power supply across the country, including the capital Havana. The sudden outage caused widespread chaos as the national electricity system collapsed.
According to Cuba’s Ministry of Energy, the national grid shut down unexpectedly in the evening, leading to a complete breakdown of power supply. Officials said efforts were underway to restore electricity across affected areas.
Earlier, a similar nationwide outage had left more than 10 million homes without power, highlighting ongoing issues with the country’s energy infrastructure. The state electricity company, Unión Nacional Eléctrica, confirmed that the national grid had fully collapsed, marking the third major blackout in four months.
The repeated outages have raised concerns over the stability of Cuba’s power system and the impact on daily life and essential services.
