LODRHAN: At least 25 passengers were injured when the Tezgam Express derailed near Adam Wahan station in Lodhran, triggering a large-scale rescue operation, officials said.According to reports, multiple bogies of the Rawalpindi-to-Karachi train overturned and several others derailed, with a total of eight bogies involved in the incident.
Four bogies overturned, while three derailed during the accident late at night.Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials confirmed that eight passengers were taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, where one remains in critical condition.
Seven others were discharged after treatment.An emergency was declared at the hospital, and additional medical staff were called in to handle the injured.
Authorities said the cause of the derailment is yet to be determined.A relief camp was set up for passengers, where food and transport arrangements were provided.
Efforts were also made to assist affected travellers in continuing their journey.Railway authorities launched operations to clear the tracks, using heavy machinery to remove derailed bogies.
The up track was restored after about 13 hours, allowing several trains, including the Hazara Express, to resume service. The down track was restored after nearly 17 hours, and train operations have gradually returned to normal.
Officials said the situation is now under control, with rescue and clearance operations completed, while an investigation into the cause of the accident is expected to follow.
