WASHINGTON: Former CIA director John Brennan has said he places greater trust in Iran’s statements than those of US President Donald Trump.
In a statement, Brennan said that despite facts repeatedly emerging, Trump was unwilling to accept them. He added that the US president appeared to be trying to escape a setback of his own making and was wrong in claiming that Iran wanted to negotiate on American terms.
Separately, Donald Trump said that Tehran had offered Washington a “very significant prize” related to oil and gas, expressing optimism that a deal to end the conflict could be within reach.
He said Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were leading the discussions and engaging with what he described as “the right people” in Iran.
