KARACHI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for more rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in various parts of the country, as a Western weather system is expected to enter most regions within the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to NDMA, heavy winds and storms may accompany the rain, with snowfall likely in the upper and mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The report highlighted that Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, and Gujranwala may experience rainfall, while Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, and Lahore could see storms with thunder and lightning.
Rain is also expected in Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Bahawalpur, Burewala, Multan, Dera Ismail Khan, Narowal, Chiniot, Nankana Sahib, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal.
Additionally, precipitation is forecast in Haripur, Sawabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astor, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, Poonch, Kotli, Neelum Valley, Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Chaman, Kohlu, Duki, and Harnai.
NDMA warned that Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mingora, Battagram, Peshawar, and Abbottabad could experience thunderstorms and rain, with strong winds, lightning, and hail potentially damaging weak structures, trees, and power lines.
In mountainous areas, continuous rainfall raises the risk of landslides. All provincial and district authorities have been instructed to remain alert and prepared for the possible impact of the severe weather.
