TEHRAN: A violent attack occurred at the home of senior Iranian political figure Dr. Kamal Kharazi in Tehran, leaving his wife dead and Kharazi himself severely injured. Arab media reports stated that he was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Dr. Kharazi is considered a close advisor to Iran’s top leadership and serves as head of the Strategic Council for Foreign Affairs. He previously held the position of Iran’s Foreign Minister from 1997 to 2005 and has played a central role in shaping the country’s foreign policy.
No official statement has yet been issued regarding the nature of the attack or those responsible. Security measures in the area have been tightened following the incident.
In a recent interview, Kharazi had expressed concerns over the limits of diplomatic options, noting that Iran has faced attacks even during past negotiations and that international pressure might be the only path toward a ceasefire.
Dr. Kharazi remains a key advisor on foreign policy to Iran’s senior leadership and continues to hold significant influence in the country’s strategic decision-making.
