JAMSHORO: In a landmark development, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Jamshoro launched its first-ever modern electric bus service, marking a significant step towards sustainable and student-friendly campus facilities.

The project was formally launched under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ikram Din Ujjan, who described the initiative as a historic milestone in the university’s journey towards modernisation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by faculty members and students, who warmly welcomed the new service. Addressing the gathering, the vice chancellor said the electric bus service was not just a transport facility but a major relief for students.

He emphasised that the initiative aimed to provide safe, reliable and free transport within the campus, enabling students to focus more effectively on their academic pursuits. “Our vision is to transform LUMHS into a modern, well-equipped institution that meets international standards,” he said, adding that the administration remained committed to introducing welfare-oriented projects for students.
Professor Dr Ikram Din Ujjan further highlighted that the electric buses would help reduce the financial burden on students while contributing to environmental sustainability and better traffic management on campus.
Students expressed strong appreciation for the initiative, calling it a revolutionary step in the university’s history. One student noted that daily transport between departments had previously cost between Rs300 and Rs400, creating financial strain. With the introduction of the electric bus service, students said they would now benefit from cost-free, safe and comfortable travel.
The student body also praised the vice chancellor’s leadership, saying the project reflected a clear commitment to student facilitation and progressive development. The ceremony concluded with students expressing gratitude to the university administration and optimism for more innovative and student-focused initiatives in the future.
