KARACHI: Police in Karachi’s East Zone said action had been taken against an illegal gutka manufacturing unit on the orders of DIG East, Dr Farrukh Ali.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SDPO Jamshed Division ASP Muhammad Ashir within the jurisdiction of Shah Latif Town police station.
During the raid, a suspect identified as Abbas, son of Muhammad Iqbal, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the preparation of hazardous gutka and mawa, and the equipment was taken into police custody.
Police said the raid was conducted on the basis of intelligence at a factory located in Abdullah Goth near Tooba Mosque in Shah Latif Town.
Items recovered from the site included three tubs containing 30kg of prepared wet chalia, two silver cooking pots, one bucket of prepared lime, plastic buckets, a digital weighing scale, a gas cylinder, 20 packets of gutka and mawa, four mixing spoons and other packing materials.
A case had been registered against the suspect under number 789/2026 under the relevant section of the Sindh Gutka and Mawa Act, and he had been handed over to the investigation wing for further inquiry.
Police said a zero-tolerance policy against hazardous and harmful substances and narcotics was being enforced.
