KARACHI: Baqai Medical University (BMU) conducted a mentor training session under the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) National Mentorship Program, aimed at strengthening faculty development and institutional mentoring practices.
The initiative, led by the HEC through the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), forms part of the nationwide Mentoring Program for Universities (MPU). It focuses on building leadership capacity, enhancing professional development, and promoting structured mentorship across higher education institutions. The program builds on the earlier Women Empowerment and Mentoring Program (WEMP).
At BMU, the session was organized to equip selected mentors with key skills, including effective communication, mentoring frameworks and program orientation. The training emphasized practical approaches to mentoring and its role in improving academic performance and institutional growth.
The session was facilitated by Prof Dr Sofia Ahmed, convener of the mentoring program committee and dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with trained mentors Dr Syeda Saima Qamar Naqvi and Prof Dr Ruqaya Nangrejo.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Siddiqui and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kashif Ikram attended the session, reflecting institutional support for faculty development initiatives. Faculty members and management representatives also participated.
The initiative aligns with Baqai Medical University’s Strategic Plan (2023–2028) and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 17 on partnerships for the goals.
BMU said it continues to implement initiatives focused on academic strengthening, leadership development and institutional capacity building.
