KARACHI: Commemorations marking Victory Day were held on Friday as Russian diplomatic representatives in Karachi paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the second world war and reflected on the enduring significance of 9 May in global history.
In a message issued on the occasion, Nikita Kosiakov, Vice Consul and Director of Russian Friendship House Karachi, extended greetings to those observing the anniversary, describing the day as a solemn reminder of courage, sacrifice and collective resilience in the fight against fascism. He said Victory Day remained one of the most significant moments in modern history.
On 9 May, the world commemorated the bravery and unity shown by millions of soldiers and civilians who defended the values of peace, dignity and humanity during a period of immense destruction and hardship. The statement noted that the sacrifices of wartime generations continued to resonate across borders and generations, serving as a lasting symbol of determination in the face of adversity.
Kosiakov also stressed the importance of preserving historical memory and honoring the veterans and martyrs, whose efforts secured freedom for countless people. He said their legacy continued to inspire younger generations and stood as a reminder of the need for solidarity, mutual respect and international understanding at a time of continuing global tensions.
Russian House Karachi paid tribute to the soldiers, veterans and families who endured the devastation of war, the message acknowledged that their sacrifices had left an enduring mark on world history. It added that the spirit of Victory Day transcended cultures and national boundaries, carrying a message of peace and unity.
