ABU DHABI: A drone attack has been reported outside the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, causing a fire that was later brought under control, according to UAE authorities.
Officials confirmed the incident but said there was no loss of life.Authorities said the drone strike triggered a fire in a generator located outside the Barakah Nuclear Plant in the Al Dhafra region near the Saudi border.
Emergency teams responded quickly and extinguished the blaze.The statement added that radiation safety levels remained fully secure and there was no impact on the plant’s core operations.
All units at the Barakah facility are functioning normally.Officials said the Barakah nuclear plant is a key energy asset for the UAE, producing around 25 per cent of the country’s electricity with a total capacity of 5.6 gigawatts.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, but UAE authorities stressed that safety systems successfully contained the situation and prevented any wider damage.
