NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan, killing four militants, including a high-value target identified as Umar alias Jan Mir, security sources said.
Officials said the operation targeted a militant hideout where the suspects were allegedly involved in planning and facilitating attacks against security forces and civilians.
Umar alias Jan Mir was described as a key militant commander in the region. He was reportedly involved in establishing underground bunkers, tunnels and improvised explosive device networks in the vicinity of Bobali Mosque in Spinwam, which were allegedly used for militant activities and attacks on security movements.
Security sources said he was a most-wanted militant with a bounty of 3 million rupees and was believed to be involved in several attacks in the area.
Three other militants were also killed during the operation. A follow-up clearance and search operation was underway to eliminate any remaining threats and ensure area sanitisation.
Officials said operations against militancy would continue under a zero-tolerance policy to restore lasting peace in the region.
In related developments, sources claimed more than 30 militants had been killed over the past three days in ongoing operations in the Shawal and Spinwam areas of North Waziristan.
