KARACHI: Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman on Thursday took serious notice of reported increases in flour and bread prices across parts of the province and directed authorities to immediately review the situation and take corrective action. He instructed the food department and district administrations to closely monitor markets and ensure strict action against any unjustified price hikes. The minister said Sindh had recorded a bumper wheat crop this year, with sufficient stocks available, and rejected any claims of shortage or supply disruption.
He stressed that artificial increases in the prices of wheat, flour or bread would not be tolerated under any circumstances, adding that providing relief to the public remained the government’s top priority. The minister sought a detailed report from senior food department officials on wheat stocks, flour availability, supply chain conditions and overall market prices to support timely decision-making. He ordered continuous monitoring of flour mills, wholesale and retail markets, and bakeries across Sindh, and directed strict action against hoarding, profiteering and attempts to create artificial shortages.
Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in manipulating prices and said an indiscriminate crackdown would be launched against offenders. He also directed daily monitoring of stocks and rates, and asked citizens to report any irregularities, assuring prompt action to maintain price stability across the province.
