KARACHI: Russian Language Day and Pushkin Day were celebrated with enthusiasm at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Karachi under the leadership of the Director of the Russian House, Nikita Kosiakov, officials said.

The event brought together librarians, educationists, academics and representatives from various educational institutions across the city. It highlighted the literary heritage of the Russian language and the enduring legacy of poet Alexander Pushkin.
Chief guests at the ceremony included Syed Shakhwt Ali, President of Abilympics Pakistan, and Syed Musharraf Ali Shah. In their remarks, they emphasised the importance of cultural dialogue, educational cooperation and the expansion of people to people contacts between Pakistan and Russia.
Speakers at the event said Russian Language Day, observed annually on 6 June, recognises the contribution of Alexander Pushkin to Russian literature and the development of modern Russian language. They noted that Russian continues to hold global significance as a language of science, education, literature and international communication.
The programme was conducted by Abdul Hafeez Sajidi, while coordination was managed by Fariha Aqib and Rabiya Ali Faridi. The event featured participation from a range of guests including Syed Izhar Hussain, Rashid Ali, Mehdi, Sana Afsheen, Zara Rehman, Afshan Khan, Sharan Sajidi, Mah Jabeen Rehman, Shahzad, Jawahar Aleem, Asif Ilyas, Nazeeha and Shahan, along with librarians and representatives of educational institutions.
Participants discussed the growing interest in Russian language studies in Pakistan and stressed the need to further strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. They also paid tribute to Pushkin’s lasting influence on world literature and his role in shaping Russian linguistic identity.
