JAMSHORO: The Sindh government distributed scholarship cheques worth 50,000 rupees each to 750 students from minority communities at a ceremony held in Latif Hall at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, officials said.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran followed by the national anthem, attended by senior provincial officials, university heads and students. Under the Sindh Scholarship Scheme for 2025 to 2026, the Minority Affairs Department allocated 37.5 million rupees to support higher education. Secretary Jamshed Alam Memon said 2,257 applications were received, with 750 students selected on merit.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Minority Affairs Sham Sunder Advani said the government was committed to equal educational opportunities and long term social progress.
Hyderabad Commissioner Fayaz Hussain Abbasi praised the initiative and encouraged students to pursue their studies with dedication. University vice chancellors said the financial support would help reduce dropout rates and ease educational pressures. The ceremony concluded with cheque distribution to students, who expressed gratitude for the assistance provided.
