KHAIRPUR: The Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) has approved a series of academic and research initiatives aimed at strengthening research with practical benefits for society and national development.

The decisions were taken at the board’s 82nd meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk at the university’s Syndicate Hall.
The board recommended the award of degrees to 38 postgraduate scholars, including seven PhD candidates and 31 MS and MPhil students. It also approved a number of new research proposals across different faculties and adopted a policy allowing the re-enrolment of dormant, discontinued, withdrawn and time-barred graduate students.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Khushk said research programmes should comply with Higher Education Commission requirements while also addressing the needs of society. He said academic research should produce practical outcomes that benefit both local communities and the country.
He urged faculty members to secure research funding from the Higher Education Commission and other national and international organisations. He also called for stronger mechanisms to evaluate research proposals and ensure they were implemented in line with the university’s policies.
The vice chancellor said project-based research was essential to achieving meaningful social impact and encouraged researchers to focus on studies that could provide practical solutions to community challenges.
The meeting was conducted by board member Dr Munir Ahmed Kazi and Secretary for Postgraduate Studies Islam Gul Mahar. It was attended by senior faculty members and university officials, including Registrar Muhammad Hassan Halepoto and Controller of Examinations Nazir Ahmed Phulpoto.
