KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Monday launched the city’s latest anti-polio campaign at the Institute of Child Health, calling on all stakeholders to work together to eliminate the disease.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Health Secretary Tahir Hussain Sangi, Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Coordinator Shehryar Memon, South Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khoso, senior health officials, police officers and other representatives.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner said the campaign would continue until July 12, with the goal of administering polio drops to 2.5 million children under the age of five across Karachi.
He said around 26,000 polio workers had been deployed for the drive, while 7,000 security personnel had been assigned to ensure the safety of vaccination teams.
Naqvi added that deputy commissioners would personally monitor the campaign in their respective districts to ensure smooth implementation.
Describing polio eradication as a national mission, the commissioner said all government departments and partner organisations were working together to protect children and eliminate the virus from the country.
