KARACHI: A two-day Scouts Training Camp organised jointly by the Karachi Press Club and the Sindh Boy Scouts Association concluded successfully, with organisers highlighting the importance of practical training, discipline and character-building activities for children.
The camp, titled “Scouts Camp 2026”, was held on July 18 and 19 at the Sindh Boy Scouts Training Centre in Gulistan-e-Johar. It was organised for children of Karachi Press Club members aged between eight and 14 years, with the aim of promoting scouting skills, leadership qualities, teamwork, first aid, emergency response abilities and the spirit of social service.
During the two-day programme, participants took part in a range of practical and educational activities. Experienced instructors trained children in basic scouting techniques, first aid, camp life, emergency response, leadership skills, discipline and teamwork.
Various exercises and group activities were also conducted to enhance the mental and physical abilities of the young participants.
At the closing ceremony, children presented practical demonstrations of first aid, scouting skills, teamwork, discipline and other activities they had learned during the camp. Their performances were appreciated by parents, guests and participants.
Speaking at the ceremony, organisers said such positive and constructive activities played an important role in developing self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, national service spirit, discipline, cooperation and leadership abilities among children.
They said the Karachi Press Club and Sindh Boy Scouts Association would continue organising joint programmes in the future to support the character-building and positive development of the younger generation.
Parents attending the closing ceremony welcomed the initiative, saying children in today’s world needed more than academic education. They said practical training, discipline, confidence-building and emergency management skills were equally important for their personal growth.
They added that the two-day camp helped children develop a sense of responsibility and provided them with valuable lessons in teamwork, punctuality and community service. Parents thanked the organisers and called for similar training programmes to be arranged regularly.
The participating children said they gained valuable knowledge about scouting, first aid, camping, discipline and teamwork. They said the practical activities not only helped them learn new skills but also increased their confidence. Many participants described the experience of making new friends, working in groups and facing different challenges as memorable.
At the end of the ceremony, certificates were distributed among all participants, while children showing outstanding performance received special shields.
Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili, Secretary Aslam Khan and Joint Secretary Farooq Sami congratulated camp in-charge Nazir Ahmed Abbasi and other organisers for successfully conducting the programme.
The services of Sindh Boy Scouts Association Secretary Akhtar Mir were also appreciated for his training and organisational efforts. The security arrangements were praised, with tribute paid to Secretary Liaison Committee Arif Mahmood, Deputy Head Vigilance Committee Asim Bhatti and their team.
